This apartment hotel building with integrated premises and an underground garage parking is an example of a transitional facility type, which is relatively new for Saint Petersburg and belongs between a classical hotel and a residential house. It was the purpose of the building that defined the principal constructional concept, including a closed yard, a single entrance, and the building’s overall integrity. The Avenue Apart is a nine-storey cubical building with an inner yard. The architectural image is shaped through the rhythm of the window openings, the monumentality of proportions, the interaction between the colors and texture of the ceramic sidings. The façades exterior finish has a uniform and tempered style. Natural terracotta color scheme is used here, obtained by blending clays and burning them at different temperatures. This provides for an impression of a “wicker” ornamental structure and softens the overall monumentality of the shapes. The main entrance to the hotel is arranged at the side of the Akademika Pavlova street, in the inner yard, and is located on the central axis of the building. A special attention is devoted to the contemporary design of the double-height lobby in the classical modernist style. |
