"– Architecture for me, on the first place, is a profession. That is what I do, how I earn, and what I like. In this sense, I am a happy man: I do what I like, and doing this I earn money. You must admit that it is anyone’s dream. Tasks of architecture, I think, have already been described by Vitruvius: «utility, durability, beauty». There is nothing else to add. I do not believe in social mission of architecture. I remember that one of the greats said that architecture is not able to change life, while life modifies architecture beyond all recognition. That is why its purpose is to serve human, to serve for long time and to remain in the fashion. If it gives some aesthetic pleasure then, in my opinion, the task of architecture has been definitely completed."
